Vilanova i la Geltrú

Known as the capital of the Costa de Garraf this beautiful town lies on the coast just 40 minutes South of Barcelona and 6 minutes from Sitges.

“Forty minutes south of Barcelona is Vilanova I la Geltrú, a busy seaside town that’s often overlooked by visitors but boasts good beaches, a pretty town centre and some of the best seafood around. Sandwiched in between touristy Sitges and the resorts of the Costa Daurada, Vilanova is largely a working town that doesn’t get the streams of visitors who flock to neighbouring resorts. And that’s just why we like it. Browse the shops along the Rambla, eat a generous paella by the port or laze on the family beaches”. EasyJet flight magazine, June 2004.

Markets and shopping

VilanovaVilanova is a bustling town with a magnificent market and shops. Fresh produce arrives daily at the art deco market. The famous seafood of Vilanova being a particular speciality along with the Iberian hams, local meats and fresh olives. It is worth spending some time just ‘drinking in’ the atmosphere and perhaps sampling a shot of local brandy in the bar! Modern shops line the Rambla Principal and the adjacent road Carrer Libertat and when the shopping and promenading gets too much, relax with a coffee and pastry at one of the many pavement cafes.

Beaches

The soft white beaches are both long and wide and shelve gently into the warm sea making it safe for all the family. Beach cafes are open during the summer season nestling under palm trees and white sail canopies to shelter from the sun. Water and beach sports are available and a lively sailing club for the more adventurous. Sea fishing is also popular off the coves nestling between Vilanova and Sitges. These coves also provide a place for those who like to get an ‘all over’ sun tan!
